Overview

Escuela Futuro Verde is excited to offer an array of volunteer opportunites! Upon acceptance: We require a donation of $150 to secure your spot and to cover the cost of the volunteer program to the school. This donation may be made directly to the Associacion's bank account in Costa Rica or as a tax-deductable donation via PayPal to our fiscal sponsor, Green Wave. This $150 donation is the total cost of our volunteer program.

Housing: We no longer provide housing with our volunteer program. We are happy to assist you with finding appropriate housing if necessary, but the entire cost of housing is the responsibility of the volunteer. Housing costs fluctuate over the course of the year depending upon the season.

Located on the beautiful Sarapiquí River, the SCLC depends on long-term volunteers to run its day-to-day programs and operations. The volunteers must be highly-committed, self-motivated, willing to work full-time, and responsible for coordinating the entirety of the EFL program. In 2012, the SCLC is restructuring and focusing on realizing its original mission of establishing itself as a center for resources for the Sarapiqui community and a place where the community comes to support and help each other. Due to the nature of the Center and the mission to reach and work with the local community, all volunteers should have an intermediate level of Spanish and feel comfortable communicating.

Requirements for the successful candidate:
 A Ph.D. or its equivalent in an agriculture-related field.
 Fifteen (15) years of proven experience in activities related to education, academic research or administration; planning and management of socioeconomic development programs; or management of businesses in the agrifood sector.

About Zamorano
Founded in 1941, Zamorano is a private, non-profit international university specializing in the areas of agricultural production, sustainable management of natural resources and the environment, rural development to reduce poverty, and improvement of global agribusiness competitiveness. Zamorano graduates work in agricultural production, agribusiness, food technology, conservation, government jobs and academia. The institution is located in the Yeguare valley in the Francisco Morazán Department of Honduras and is registered in the United States as a non-profit corporation. In Honduras, the institution has the status of an International Mission and is recognized by the Honduran Council of Higher Education.

Zamorano offers four undergraduate degrees in Agricultural Engineering: Agricultural Science and Production, Agribusiness Management, Food Agroindustry, and Socioeconomic Development and Environment. The educational program emphasizes academic excellence and character formation, and it complements theory with practical field experience through its Learning by Doing program, which makes up half of the Zamorano formation.

The University boasts an enrollment of 1156 students from 22 Latin American countries and is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of 18 members from 9 countries, including leaders in business, education or civic affairs. The institution is especially interested in reaching out to it alumni for support.

The campus is approximately 40 minutes from Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital, and lies on 113,567 acres. Director of Institutional Advancement
The new Director of Institutional Advancement will:
? develop, direct and implement an Institutional Advancement Program for Zamorano University that includes strategic planning and fundraising, relationships with graduates, marketing, communications and public relations pursuant with the guidelines of the university´s rector to promote the Zamorano mission.
? develop relationships with the different constituencies, individuals and institutions with whom Zamorano interacts -- graduates, friends, corporations, foundations, cooperation agencies -- to ensure increased and sustainable sources of income for the institution and improve the quality of its academic programs for the future generations.
? seek a better understanding to consolidate a greater support from the institution´s different audiences to obtain the necessary funding for fulfilling the Zamorano mission.
? provide integrated marketing and communications tools to support Zamorano in reaching its target of being known as the best agricultural university in the region.

The Director of Institutional Advancement strives to attain these objectives through rigorous fundraising programs, stewardship, and the relationships with graduates and the parents of students as well as by implementing an effective communications program.

Responsibilities
 Develop and initiate a strategy to seek major donors, manage a portfolio of no fewer than 40 prospective donors annually
 Lead the effort to preserve and expand public and foundation donor sources
 Initiate pilot fundraising projects in Latin America
 Maintain and expand individual and corporate fundraising in Latin America
 Inspire and lead the IA staff and the Zamorano community to be part of the advancement effort for the University
 Achieve and overall increase IA fundraising by US $12,000,000 in 5 years (US $2.4 million additional over current average per year)
 Perform other assigned activities to support the Zamorano Mission.

Requirements:
Work Experience
 10 years management experience in non-profit universities or organizations.
 5 years combined experience in public relations, marketing, communications and planning.
 Experience in campaigns related to communications, institutional image, relationships with governments, individual and corporate donors, and bi-lateral entities.
 Experience in senior level administrative positions in the field of Institutional Advancement or similar. Priority will be given to those who accredit their experience in the following Institutional Advancement fields: fundraising, relationships with graduates and communications

Special Knowledge and Training
 Proven capacity for fundraising including major individual and corporate donors, project grants, and contributions from graduates.
 Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish, and a solid basis for public relations.
 Excellent capacities for leadership, teamwork, working under pressure, and efficient management of multiple projects.
 Capacity to maintain good interpersonal and organizational relationships.
 Possess the capacity to work independently, results driven and motivated.
 Bilingual (fluent in English and Spanish)
 Lived and worked in a multicultural environment, preferably in Central or South America, at least 5 years.
 Efficient in Microsoft Office and Internet usage.
 Willingness to live on the Zamorano campus located in a rural area, 30 km from Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, or to travel at least two weeks per month to the Campus and/or countries of interest for Zamorano.
